sick

Something wasn't right. It was Sunday morning and Sadie was yelling at her daddy to open the computer room door for her. He let her in as usual, but instead of being happy about it, she sat at my desk and whined...and cried, and was miserable. Not a Sadie thing to do. Normally shes chatty with Tony, and happy and banging my keyboard. Something was wrong.

(set up with her pink pillow and blankie)

So I picked her up to find her a snack, and she felt unusually warm. So I scoured the house and found our thermometer (hidden in the diaper bag -- why??). I took her temperature, and from the moment I put it under her arm, I knew she was sick, why you ask? Because this child will not sit still for a temperature reading. Normally I have to pin her down or hold her body with my legs while restraining her arms, but this time she sat in my lap, cried a little, then shut her eyes and was quiet.

(orange, banana, avacado, blueberry smoothie)

Yep, she was sick. She had a fever. My poor bunny. This is the second fever shes ever had, ever. So when I set up a pillow and her blanket on the couch, she knew exactly what to do, and cuddled up. We spent the day watching Arthur on PBS and drinking smoothies with blueberries and avacado in them. I even made her my special homemade chicken noodle soup. She loved it, and so did Tony. Made my day.

(fancy noodles! my homemade chicken noodle soup)

Shes still not 100% even with the fever being gone, but shes getting there. Lucas is doing well so far - I'm relieved.

its been way too long...

Lack of posting has been due to many factors, but most if it boils down to Lucas not wanting to be held by anyone but me, and wanting to be held all the time.

So lately...

Sadie had a big red scratch that was bleeding right near her ear lobe, and it was red under that part and around the back of her ear. It looked like it was healing and then BLAMO, it was bleeding again (due to her scratching it). I worried it was a ear infection, even though no other symptoms occurred.

It was a horrible doctors visit. We got into the exam room and right away Sadie started panicing and wanting to leave the room. She whined and clung to me and then when I put her down, tried to take off down the hall. Then Lucas who was with Aunty Beth immediatly started screaming in the waiting room, so loudly that I had to call her and have her bring him in too. So there we were, sitting with 2 miserable kidlets waiting for the clinic doctor, who wasnt the happiest person either. Probably picked up on the mood right quick when entering the room of misery.

Lucky me, I got to restrain Sadie while the doctor looked in her ears. She flipped out and screamed her "IM DYING" scream. Obviously the last doctors visit traumitized her... Note to self: gonna do her shots at the health unit for now.

So after all was checked out, she ended up not having an ear infection, YAY, but has exema around her ear and on her arms. Hence the weird cream for her skin. We also stocked up vitamins cause both kids could use some. Its way too gross to play outside.

After our most exhausting appointment, we headed home and naps were had by everyone. I love that right now they are on the same napping schedule and bedtime schedule. It means I can shower at night and then read or just get extra sleep.

I've also been working on some pictures to display on the walls. I've had these little photoclips for forever and havent used them. I'm putting some photos together to hang in the living room. It takes a while when a toddler also wants to help.

I also made scones for the first time from scratch. They were cheddar chive dill and they were awesome. Tony loved them, especially that I used his cast iron skillet to bake them in.

I'm working on a little valentines diy for you all and also something fun for the kids. Hopefully I can finish tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, and I apologize for the lack of "real" photos. I lost the camera cards and refuse to buy a new one yet. So until then, its iPhone photos :(

I hope your week is good, I'll try and blog again this week.

Oh, and PS, Lucas has now found his own "IM DYING" scream, and has started using it this morning....*sigh*

Parenting Fail - again

It seems that I just cant get it together this week. After body checking Sadie into the wall, I managed to scare the daylights out of Lucas.

It was right after we all woke up, and I had just changed Lucas' diaper and had him laying on the couch. Well, I went down on the floor to catch Sadie for her turn when I realized that my housecoat was caught on something. Not looking or thinking, I yanked the housecoat free and as it came free, it hit me...the only thing that would be on my housecoat was the baby. I turned just in time to see my little boy fall - right off the couch and land on the floor.

I was pretty horrified that I let that happen. Poor boy.

He was fine after 15 seconds of crying. Thank goodness for a low-ish couch.

Get it together Miranda...get it together.

update on the sleeping thing

Lucas' sleeping habbits have gotten a little better. He doesnt stay up for an hour randomly in the wee hours of the morning. He does, however, hate any soother like device that I try and trick him with when I am too tired of being a human soother. Somehow I've got to fix that bad habit. Its really tough to get bad habits when the screaming and crying wakes the other sibling up.

Sadie still is in the habit of wanting a bottle at night. I'm really wanting her to quit, but I don't want to deal with the consequences of it all. She even got into the habit of having one at naptime, but I've been taking that away. As she is almost 2, she screams like a banshee when she doesn't get it. The screaming is deafening, and doesnt stop until shes exhausted. Maybe I'll just take a week to go through sleepless hell and take the bottle away. Ugh, I dread it.

Lucas still gets bad gas. Bad enough to wake him up and get him all upset. I'm buying ovol drops asap to see if that helps.

I wish the magic sleep fairy would make my children sleep 8 hours straight. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Ahh wishful thinking.

Oh, and any tricks on getting a toddler to stop screaming bloody murder would be much appreciated.

Pepper face

This little girl helped unload the groceries with me. Toting cereal boxes and bread all over the kitchen. She even managed to hide the sour cream on me. After all that, she helped herself to a half a red pepper that was sitting in the open fridge (while I was putting things away). I should also mention that she ate all the pepper and did not spit out the skin in my hand after chewing it for an eternity (like she sometimes does with apples and things).

She loves to help. She has been "folding laundry" since she could pick it up, and also loves to help with tucking people in with her blankets.

Parenting Fail

"Theres some leftover Christmas chocolate in the computer room" said Tony.

Frantically, I spun around and went to sprint over to the spare room not seeing the little teacup human behind me.

She bounced off my knee and ran right into the corner of the wall.
She ended up biting her tounge and banging her head.

All for some leftover chocolate...

Needless to say, Sadie ate the leftover chocolate with me.
And thats how you cure a bloody tounge and a bruised head, and some pretty bad guilt.

New Years Resolutions

I'm not terribly big on New Years resolutions, but I figured I'd set a few for myself this year. Lately I've been feeling self conscious about my body - I've got 20 lbs to go before I hit pre Sadie weight, and that is just depressing for me. So, for my first resolution I'm going to set a goal to eat healthier. It hurts a little to say it because, lets face it - I love food. Food glorious food! So, more veggies, less meats I think will help (for me at least).

Second resolution- squeeze in some more "me" time. Lucas is THE most clingiest baby ever right now, and its terribly frustrating. This resolution will depend on him a bit, but I hope to make it a thing where I can escape the land of the little people and interact with grown up people at least once a week.

Third resolution- I need to have more patience with the little ones. Everyone has those days, and I hope to have less of them and find more patience with my babies, while they are still babies.
